Vietnam Legal Age of Consent

Under section 9 (1) of the Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children Act 2000, rape is defined as rape as having sexual intercourse with a woman, with or without her consent, if she is under sixteen (16) years of age. [30] The age of consent in the United Kingdom (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) is 16. In addition, all UK territories have their own local age of consent laws. At present, however, all of these areas also set the age of consent at 16. In the UK, there are no exceptions for people close to age. Two people under the age of consent can be prosecuted for sexual activity. In April 2008, the case of Nujood Ali, a 10-year-old girl who managed to obtain a divorce, made headlines around the world and prompted calls to raise the legal age of marriage to 18. [124] Later in 2008, the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood proposed setting the minimum age of marriage at 18. The law was passed in April 2009, but abandoned the next day after attempts by opposing parliamentarians. Negotiations for the adoption of the law are ongoing.

[125] In Hong Kong, the age of consent for sexual activity is 16, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. [49] However, the age of consent for a woman who engages in intercourse is 21. [50] The age of consent in Europe, Asia or other continents varies by country and territory. The age of consent is between 12 and 21 years, with most countries between 14 and 16 years. Nearly a dozen countries, including Iran, Qatar, Yemen and Afghanistan, completely ban premarital sex but have no age restrictions on marital sex. Several other countries have an age of consent above 16, including Cyprus (17), Ireland (17), Turkey (18), Iraq (18), Vietnam (18) and Bahrain (21). In addition, some countries provide for age-related exceptions, others do not. â Consent must be given or authorized by the holder of parental responsibility for the child â minors are granted additional rights of the data subject (e.g.

deletion, access, transparency) additional data security requirements apply – other Articles 372 and 373 make it illegal to buy or sell minors for the purpose of prostitution. In addition, section 78 of the Children Act 2013 requires any person who has effective responsibility or supervision of a child (redefined by law as a person under the age of 18) to seduce or induce the child into prostitution. [33] According to section 122 of the Offences Ordinance,[52] a person under the age of 16 cannot legally give consent that would prevent an act from constituting bodily injury for the purpose of indecent bodily harm. Therefore, a woman who engages in sexual activity with a boy or girl under the age of 16 will be prosecuted under this section. While most European countries set the age of consent at 16-17, several others, including Malta and Vatican City, require young people to be at least 18 before legally having sex. The lowest age of consent in Europe is 14, which applies in Austria, Italy, Serbia, Germany and Portugal. The age of consent in Uzbekistan is 16 for heterosexual men (oral sex for gay men) and lesbian and heterosexual women. [116] Only male homosexual intercourse is punishable by up to three years in prison (called Besoqolbozlik). [117] The age of consent in Tajikistan is 16, as stipulated in article 141 of the Criminal Code. The penalty is 2 to 5 years` imprisonment. [22] The Civil Code also addresses the age of consent at the prefectural level (and sometimes municipalities within a prefecture).

In Japan, a person must reach the age of 20 to be considered an adult, and parental consent plays an important role in legal issues affecting young people. Regardless of age, anyone who has sexual intercourse with a person he knows or has reason to believe is another man`s wife is guilty of adultery without the man`s consent or acquiescence, which does not amount to the crime of rape. [34] Prior to 2012, it was assumed that a male minor under the age of 14 could not consent to sexual intercourse under any circumstances. The law was changed after a 13-year-old boy attacked a 5-year-old girl in a ward of Chai Wan Hospital. The prosecution was unable to convict him of rape, but only of immoral assault. In 2015, an 11-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy were arrested after they were found having sex with an 11-year-old girl. Under the new laws, they have the option of being sentenced to the maximum sentence of life imprisonment. [56] The age of consent in Cambodia is 15, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.

[36] The age of consent in this country is determined by Section 8 of Chapter 4 (Debauchery) of the Anti-Abduction, Trafficking and Exploitation of Persons Act, which was specifically enacted to prohibit sexual relations with children under the age of 15.
